“My Old Ass”

My Old Ass is a heartfelt coming-of-age comedy with a twist of magical realism, directed by Megan Park (The Fallout). The film follows Elliott (Maisy Stella), a witty 18-year-old on the verge of leaving for college, who has a bizarre encounter during a mushroom trip: she meets her 39-year-old future self (Aubrey Plaza).

With Plaza’s signature dry humor and Stella’s youthful charm, the two versions of Elliott clash and connect as the older self tries to impart hard-won life advice—warning against certain romantic choices and urging her younger counterpart to cherish family time. But when young Elliott becomes determined to change her predetermined future, she learns that life’s messiness is part of what makes it meaningful.

Filled with humor and poignant moments, My Old Ass explores themes of self-acceptance, the passage of time, and the bittersweet transition into adulthood. Plaza and Stella’s chemistry drives the film, blending laugh-out-loud banter with tender reflections on regret and gratitude. Perfect for fans of *13 Going on 30* and Palm Springs, this Sundance standout delivers warmth and wisdom in equal measure.
