Sex and the City 2010

The Sex and the City sequel trades New York’s sharp edges for Abu Dhabi’s golden sands, following Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha on a luxury Middle Eastern getaway. While the film delivers the franchise’s signature fashion (think: kaftans, oversized hats, and Carrie’s metallic belt dress) and witty banter, it sparked debate for its cultural insensitivity and over-the-top escapism.

The plot splits between Samantha’s HRT-fueled antics in Abu Dhabi and a quieter New York storyline where Miranda quits her job and Charlotte struggles with motherhood. Carrie, meanwhile, grapples with marital boredom after years with Mr. Big. Though packed with visually stunning set pieces—like a karaoke performance of I Am Woman—the film’s tone clashes with the original series’ emotional depth, leaning hard into campy excess.

While panned by critics (The Guardian called it “a toxic glitter bomb”), the sequel has gained a cult following for its unabashed indulgence. Love it or hate it, SATC 2 remains a time capsule of early 2010s fashion and the franchise’s most polarizing chapter.
